If the form is inconvenient, or your email is set up in a way that does not respond to links, the address is contact@smtoolsai.com. Writing to it directly is exactly as good, and for anything with an attachment it is better.
We aim to answer within two to three working days. Bug reports that include enough detail to reproduce the problem tend to be answered fastest, because they can be acted on immediately rather than after a round of questions.
Reporting a bug
Three things turn a report we cannot act on into one we can fix the same day.
- Which page: the address of the tool, such as /tools/merge-pdf.html.
- Which browser: the name and roughly the version, and whether it is on a phone or a computer.
- What happened: what you expected, and what you got instead. An exact error message, if one appeared, is gold.
Please do not attach the file that caused the problem unless you are certain it contains nothing private. We do not need it. A description of the file, its format and roughly its size is almost always enough, and it keeps your document where it belongs, which is with you.
Suggesting a tool
Suggestions are genuinely welcome, and a good number of the tools on this site started as one. There is a single condition: the tool has to be possible without uploading your file. That rules out a few popular requests, such as anything requiring a large machine-learning model or an external service, and it is not a rule we intend to bend.
If you are not sure whether your idea fits, send it anyway. Working out whether something can be done in a browser is our job, not yours.
Corrections
Every tool page carries several hundred words explaining the format, the trade-offs and the limits. That is a lot of technical writing, and some of it will be wrong or out of date. If you know better, tell us. Corrections are applied and the page is republished, with no argument and no defensiveness about it.
What we cannot help with
Two things come up often enough to be worth saying in advance. We cannot recover a file you have lost, because we never had it. Nothing you process here is stored anywhere, so there is no copy on our side to send back to you.
We also cannot recover or bypass a password you do not know. The PDF unlock tool removes protection you are authorised to remove and decrypts a file when you supply the password, and no more than that. Encryption resisting exactly this is the point of encryption.
Advertising and partnerships
Enquiries about advertising should use the topic in the form or the address above. To save time: we do not publish sponsored articles, we do not sell links inside tool pages, and we do not add tools in exchange for payment. Display advertising is the only commercial arrangement on the site.
Privacy and data requests
If your question is about what the site knows about you, the short answer is almost nothing, and the long answer is on the privacy policy page. There are no accounts, so there is no profile to export or delete. Requests about advertising cookies are covered there too, including how to opt out.
