General
Everything on SMToolsAI is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantee that any tool is free of defects, that results are accurate, or that the site will be available when you need it.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of this site, including loss of data, corrupted files, missed deadlines or decisions made on the basis of a result produced here.
Keep your originals
This is the single most practical piece of advice on the page. The tools here produce a new file and leave your original untouched on your device, which is deliberate. Do not delete an original until you have opened the result and confirmed it is what you wanted.
Conversion is not always reversible. Compressing an image discards detail permanently. Converting to a lossy format cannot be undone by converting back. Flattening a PDF removes the text layer. In every case the original is the only route back, and we cannot supply a replacement, because we never received a copy.
Health and fitness tools
The BMI calculator and any other health-related calculator on this site are provided for general information only. They are not medical devices, they are not a diagnosis, and they are not a substitute for professional medical advice.
Body mass index in particular is a crude measure. It was designed to describe populations, not individuals. It does not distinguish muscle from fat, and it can be misleading for athletes, for older people, for pregnant women, for children and across different ethnic groups. A number from a calculator is a starting point for a conversation with a doctor, never a conclusion.
If you have a concern about your weight or your health, speak to a qualified healthcare professional. Never disregard medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something a web page calculated.
Financial calculators
The interest, loan, percentage, discount and tip calculators are arithmetic tools. They apply a standard formula to the numbers you type, and nothing more.
They are not financial advice. They do not account for fees, taxes, changes in interest rates, inflation, compounding conventions used by a particular lender, or any of the terms in an actual contract. A real loan can differ significantly from a simple calculation, and the lender's figures, not ours, are the ones that count. For decisions involving real money, consult a qualified financial adviser.
PDF security tools
Two tools on this site touch PDF protection, and both need stating clearly.
The Protect PDF tool uses the PDF standard security handler with 128-bit RC4 encryption. This is chosen for compatibility, because it is understood by essentially every PDF reader. It is not modern cryptography, and it should not be treated as strong protection for genuinely sensitive material. For that, use full disk encryption or an encrypted archive with a modern cipher.
The PDF Unlock tool removes restrictions you are authorised to remove, and decrypts a document when you supply the correct password. It is not a password cracker and cannot open a file you do not have the password for.
Removing protection from a document you do not own may breach copyright or the terms under which you received it. That responsibility is yours. This site provides a tool and takes no position on, and no responsibility for, what you apply it to.
Format and conversion limits
Browsers, not this site, decide which image formats can be decoded. Where a format is not universally supported, the affected page says so rather than failing quietly. The known cases are worth listing.
- HEIC and TIFF can be decoded by Safari on Apple platforms and generally not by Chrome, Edge or Firefox on Windows and Android.
- Animated GIF and WEBP export their first frame as a still image. Animation is not preserved.
- The PDF compressor works by rasterising pages, so text stops being selectable and searchable in the compressed copy.
- Text extraction reads a document's existing text layer. A scanned PDF contains images of pages and yields nothing without optical character recognition.
- Optical character recognition is never perfect. Output should be proofread before it is relied on, particularly numbers.
Accuracy of the written content
Each tool page carries several hundred words explaining the format, the trade-offs and the reasoning. It is written carefully and it will still contain errors, and technical facts go out of date as browsers and formats change.
Nothing written here is professional advice of any kind. If a page contradicts the documentation of the software you are actually using, believe the software. Corrections are welcome through the contact page and are acted on.
External links and advertising
This site links to external resources and displays third-party advertising. We do not control those destinations, do not endorse them by linking to them, and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices. Advertisements are selected by the ad network, not chosen by us.
Availability
We make no promise that the site will be available at any particular time. It may be unavailable for maintenance, because of a hosting failure, or for reasons outside our control. Do not build a process with a deadline around the assumption that a free web page will answer.
