The part that matters most: your files
Every tool on this site processes your files inside your own browser. When you open an image, a PDF or a block of text, it is read into your browser's memory using the File API and processed there using the Canvas API or JavaScript running in the page. The result is handed back to you as a download.
No file you process is transmitted to us or to anyone else. We do not receive it, store it, log it, scan it or use it to train anything, because it never arrives. There is no retention period to describe, because there is nothing retained.
You can verify this rather than take our word for it. Open your browser's developer tools, select the Network tab, and use any tool on the site. No request carries your file. Most tools also keep working with your network connection disabled, once the page has loaded.
The one exception, and it is not your data
The Image to Text tool downloads a recognition engine and a language model from a public CDN when you press the button. That traffic runs in one direction only: a public file comes down to your device, and your image does not go up. Recognition itself happens on your machine. The PDF tools behave the same way, fetching their libraries from a CDN and doing all the work locally.
What we collect
SMToolsAI has no accounts, no sign-up form, no login, no newsletter and no user profiles. We do not ask for your name, your email address or your payment details anywhere on the site, and we have no database of visitors.
What does exist is the following.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request information: IP address, the page requested, the time, the browser's user-agent string and the referring page. This is ordinary web-server behaviour, used for security and to diagnose faults.
- A theme preference. If you switch between light and dark mode, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the key
smtoolsai-theme. It never leaves your device. - Your cookie choice. Whether you accepted or declined is saved under the key
smtoolsai-consent, so you are not asked on every page. It never leaves your device either. - Analytics data. Collected by Google Analytics, but only if you accept. This is covered in the next section.
- Advertising data. Collected by our advertising partners, not by us, and again only if you accept.
Your choice comes first
On your first visit a banner asks whether you accept cookies for analytics and advertising. Until you answer, and if you decline, both are switched off. This is not a formality: the site uses Google Consent Mode, and the denied state is declared in the page before Google's tag loads, so nothing is set in the meantime.
Declining costs you nothing. Every one of the 103 tools works identically either way, because the tools never depended on cookies to begin with. You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link, which reopens the banner.
Analytics
If you accept, this site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which tools people use. It tells us that a page was viewed, roughly where in the world from, and which browser and device type. It does not tell us who you are, and it never sees the files you process, because those are never transmitted anywhere.
IP anonymisation is enabled, so your address is truncated before it is stored. Google's own description of how it handles this data is at policies.google.com. If you decline, no analytics cookie is set and no measurement happens.
We look at this to decide which tools deserve more work and which written guidance is not being read. That is the whole use.
Advertising and cookies
This site is funded by display advertising, supplied by Google AdSense. That advertising, together with the analytics above, is the only reason cookies appear on these pages at all.
Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. To opt out of personalised advertising from other vendors, see aboutads.info. Opting out does not remove advertising from the site. It makes the advertising you see less specific to you.
Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and may use cookies to do so. We do not control those cookies and cannot set them or read them ourselves. Their behaviour is governed by their own privacy policies, and Google's is published at policies.google.com.
Cookies this site sets itself
None. SMToolsAI sets no first-party cookies of its own. Your theme preference and your cookie choice both use local storage rather than cookies, which means they stay on your device and are never sent with a request.
Your rights
Because we hold no account data, most data-subject requests have an unusually simple answer: there is nothing to export, correct or delete on our side. We state this plainly rather than describing a process that would return an empty result.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Where analytics and advertising cookies are used, the lawful basis is consent, which is why nothing is set until you accept. You can withdraw it at any time through the cookie settings link, the opt-out links above, or by clearing cookies in your browser.
Server logs are retained by our hosting provider on a rolling basis for security purposes, and are processed under legitimate interest. You may also lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
If you are in California
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information. We hold no account data to delete. Advertising identifiers used for personalised advertising can be opted out of through the links in the advertising section above.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Since the site has no accounts and collects no personal information directly, this is a limit on advertising behaviour rather than on anything we hold.
Links to other sites
Some pages link out, most often to a browser vendor's documentation or a format specification. Once you follow a link you are on someone else's site, under their policy, and this one no longer applies. Advertisements likewise lead to third-party sites we do not operate and cannot vouch for.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Beyond that, the strongest security property here is architectural rather than procedural: a service that never receives your files cannot leak them in a breach. There is no database of user files to compromise, because there is no database of user files.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes, particularly any change to how advertising works or what is collected, will be reflected here before they take effect. We have no mailing list to notify, so the date is the mechanism.
