How to delete pages from a PDF

The pages nobody wants
Most long PDFs contain material that should not be there. Duplex scanners produce a blank page for every single-sided sheet in the stack. A downloaded ebook opens with three pages of promotional material. A merged expense claim picked up the same receipt twice. A contract sent for review includes an internal cover note that was never meant to leave the building.
Deleting is the quickest fix. The remaining pages are copied across untouched, so the trimmed document is identical in quality to the original, just shorter, smaller, and without the noise.
Pages worth removing routinely
- Blank versos created by scanning single-sided documents in duplex mode.
- Separator sheets and barcode pages inserted by a document management system.
- Duplicate scans where the feeder pulled two copies of the same sheet.
- Adverts, promotional inserts and marketing pages inside downloaded documents.
- Internal notes, draft comments and cover sheets before sending a file externally.
Numbering shifts as you delete, but not here
This trips people up in desktop software. Delete page 5, and what used to be page 6 becomes page 5. Delete a list of pages one at a time and every number after the first is wrong.
This tool removes pages from the end of the document backwards, which means the indices you typed stay valid throughout. You can list 2, 5, 9 and get exactly pages two, five and nine as they appear in the file you loaded, with no mental arithmetic and no off-by-one surprises. Type the numbers as you see them and the result matches.
Deleting is not redacting
Worth stating plainly, because the stakes are usually high when someone is removing pages before sending a document. Deleting a page genuinely removes its content from the new file, that part is real. What it does not do is remove the same information from pages you kept, and it does nothing about text hidden under a black box drawn in a PDF reader, which stays perfectly selectable underneath the rectangle.
If sensitive text appears mid-page and must not travel, the dependable approach is to rasterise: export with PDF to JPG, cover what needs covering with the image cropper or an editor, then rebuild through JPG to PDF. The text layer no longer exists, so nothing can be selected out of it.
Size, structure and what to do next
Removing pages reduces the file size roughly in proportion to what those pages contained, deleting ten blank scans from a hundred-page document saves less than deleting ten photographs. Bookmarks and links pointing at deleted pages are left dangling, which is inherent to the operation.
